Maverick Helicopter Tour: Well Worth the Price

I had always been a bit hesitant about trying out Maverick’s night time Strip tour. I wasn’t sure the $100+ price point was worth a mere 15-minute ride. Well, I was being dumb.

It’s a shame I waited this long to give Maverick a go. The view, as can be seen in the video, is spectacular. Given how quickly money can be lost in Vegas, the price really should have never been a barrier. Having never been in a helicopter before, I was surprised as to how smooth the ride was. Even more, it was quite a windy night, so anyone with fears of a shaky, turbulent ride shouldn’t let that keep them away.

Maverick offers free transportation to and from hotels within five miles of the Strip. My group had a car and were hanging out at Mandalay Bay, so we opted to drive ourselves to make it easier. The check-in process is quick. Fair warning, they do have to weigh every passenger. Numbers aren’t read out loud and, unlike a terrible burger joint, you don’t get any perks for a high score.

As departure time approaches, the pilots head to the lobby to introduce themselves to their group of passengers. They’ll read through some standard safety guidelines. I don’t remember what they were but I’m sure they are important. After all the pilots are set, they lead you to your chopper, turn on your favorite Pandora station, and away you go.

The tour starts on the east side of the Strip at Mandalay Bay, heads north and swings around the Stratosphere, buzzing by downtown before heading south again. No pictures or videos will do the ride justice. If you’re on the fence about the experience, jump right into the affirmative side. You won’t regret it.
